Auto Insurance Requirements
South Carolina and North Carolina requires every automobile owner to obtain the minimum insurance requirements. All drivers must at least obtain bodily injury coverage per person in the amount of $25,000, bodily injury coverage for more than two persons in the amount of $50,000, and property damage coverage in the amount of $25,000.
Additional Coverage Options
If you want to purchase higher coverage limits, you can choose from any of the following:
- Collision- This covers the costs of physical damage to your car resulting from an accident with another car, object, or tree.
- Comprehensive- This will cover damage to your vehicle from accidents resulting from fire, flooding, theft, vandalism, falling objects, or collision with animals. It will also cover damage to the windshield.
- Uninsured/underinsured- If you are involved in an accident with a driver who doesn’t have insurance or enough insurance, this will cover your medical wages, lost wages, and any other expenses related to the accident.
- Roadside assistance- If your car breaks down, runs out of gas, or suffers some other mechanical issue, this will cover you for towing expenses, etc.
